NEW YORK – President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. will be traveling to the United States on an official visit from April 30 to May 4, 2023. President Joe Biden will host a bilateral meeting with him at the White House on May 1.

During the visit, President Marcos is expected to advance the Philippines’ socio-economic and development priorities and harness closer partnerships in agriculture, energy, climate change, digital transformation, technology, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, supply chains, and infrastructure.

The White House also said President Biden would reaffirm the United States’ “ironclad commitment to the defense of the Philippines.” The leaders will discuss efforts to strengthen the longstanding U.S.-Philippines alliance.

In addition, both leaders will review opportunities to deepen economic cooperation and promote inclusive prosperity, expand both countries’ special people-to-people ties, invest in the clean energy transition and the fight against climate change, and ensure respect for human rights.

The statement from the White House said that the two leaders would also discuss regional matters and coordinate efforts to uphold international law and promote a free and open Indo-Pacific.

The two leaders previously met on the sideline of the United Nations General Assembly on September 22, 2022. In a tweet, President Biden said, “Our nations’ relationship is rooted in democracy, common history, and people-to-people ties, including millions of Filipino-Americans who enrich our nation. Our alliance is strong and enduring.”

After the two leaders’ meeting, an expanded meeting with key Cabinet officials will follow.
