Why was David so confident that he could defeat the giant? He had fought several victories while taking care of the sheep. A few victories in life build faith in our daily lives.
Saul tells David, “You are only a boy, and the giant has been a man of war.” 1 Samuel 17:33. Saul was saying you are not able to defeat this giant. Negative influences will always exist in your life that tell you that God cannot help you, use you, or bless you.
1 Samuel 17:34 – “But David persisted…..” David was a man of great faith, and was not overwhelmed by the size of the giant, but was overwhelmed with the size of His God. How big is your God? Are we putting our faith in the God of the Bible? Right now, we have people walking by fear instead of by faith. When you know the God of the Bible, not just know about Him, you will be able to walk in faith.
Look at David’s confession of faith in verses 36-37; “I have done this to both lions and bears, and I’ll do it to this pagan Philistine, too, for he has defied the armies of the living God! The Lord who rescued me from the claws of the lion and the bear will rescue me from this Philistine. Saul finally consented. “All right, go ahead,” he said. “And may the Lord be with you.”
I do not need the force to be with me in the battle. I need the Presence, Peace, and Power of the Lord with me in every battle that I face today. Remember: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
