In Genesis 3, we see the devil tempting Eve with doubting God’s Word. She did not give in to temptation the first time. But the enemy does not give up so easily.
Genesis 3: 4-7 reads: “But the serpent (devil) said to the woman, “You will not surely die. God knows that when you eat of it, your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good from evil. So when the woman saw the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate, and she also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate. Then, the eyes of both were opened, and they knew that they were naked. And they saw fig leaves together and made themselves loincloths.”
The devil still works the same way with temptation:
To get us to DOUBT God’s Word.
To get us to DELIGHT in things that God says is not right for us. Delight is something that we look to for pleasure in life. God’s Word tells us, “The pleasures of sin last for a season.” Sin is fun in the beginning but does not end so good.”
DESIRE is awakened within us. We need that thing to make us happy. We desire that sin of the eyes and flesh, and desire takes over, and we do what God told us not to do.
If we want to defeat the devil, we must “Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” It is the daily battle that we have as followers of Jesus. That is why I must stay connected to Jesus every single day!
