[UPDATED} NEW YORK — The critically acclaimed Filipino musical drama Song of the Fireflies continues to captivate global audiences, following its special screening held on October 28, 2025, at the Kalayaan Hall of the Philippine Center in Manhattan. The special screening was presented in partnership with the Philippine Consulate General in New York and the International Women Artists, celebrating Filipino artistry, heritage, and resilience through the universal language of music.
Directed by King Palisoc, Song of the Fireflies tells the inspiring true story of the Loboc Children’s Choir from Bohol. This small-town choir rose from humble beginnings to international acclaim. The 95-minute Tagalog-language film is a moving exploration of love, memory, and determination in a community bound by song and spirit.
The film stars powerhouse vocalist Morissette Amon as Alma Taldo, a devoted choir teacher whose mentorship transforms the lives of her young singers. She is joined by Rachel Alejandro as the cultural advocate Enriqueta “Equet” Butalid, alongside Noel Comia Jr. and Krystal Brimner, as gifted young performers discovering their purpose through music.

“What an unforgettable evening at the special screening of Song of the Fireflies! This powerful true story of the Loboc Children’s Choir celebrates the beauty of Filipino artistry and the strength of the human spirit,” said Carmen Tuazon of Woodside, New York. “Their voices continue to inspire the world, proof that music truly has the power to heal and unite.”
Visually breathtaking and emotionally profound, the film features cinematography by Pong Ignacio and an original score by Ryan Cayabyab, Louie Ocampo, Raimund Marasigan, Jazz Nicolas, and Krina Cayabyab, blending traditional Filipino melodies with modern choral harmonies.
Meanwhile, Edz Florez Lacsamana of San Francisco, CA, was impressed by the Song of the Fireflies. She said, “It is a story that talks about bravery, trust, and love. The Loboc Children’s Choir shows us that real harmony starts from within.”
Produced by Culturtain Musicat Productions, the team behind Ang Larawan, the film was developed over seven years under the leadership of Girlie Rodis, Celeste Legaspi Gallardo, Rachel Alejandro, and Sarge Lacuesta. Despite challenges such as the pandemic and natural disasters, the production remained committed to authenticity and cultural integrity.
Since its release, Song of the Fireflies has achieved international recognition, winning Best Picture at the Manila International Film Festival (MIFF), a Platinum Remi Award at the WorldFest Houston International Film Festival, and becoming the first Filipino film selected for the Italian Contemporary Film Festival.
“Song of the Fireflies is a reflection of our collective journey,” says director King Palisoc. “In a world full of noise and unrest, we hope to remind audiences that there is still something magical worth celebrating.”
With its luminous storytelling, stirring music, and universal message of hope, Song of the Fireflies stands as a shining tribute to Filipino resilience and creativity—illuminating hearts wherever it is shown.
