You probably have seen numerous residential developments, much more these days in urban and suburban areas. While many are all about high rises, a couple few, distinct as they can be, offer large open spaces, greeneries in what we call garden residences.
Garden residences are a type of development that is low density in nature; however, their appeal is also the theme of many mid-rise and high-rise developments.
For mega-developments, garden residences can mean high-rises with dedicated verdant landscaping and other green features complementing modern living. You may also expect that the concept of garden living influences architecture.
According to Stephen Wallis of the Dailybeast.com, “High-rise towers are being reimagined as vertical forests, while some visionaries are contemplating future cities where virtually all buildings would be arrayed with plants, trees, and other flora. It’s all an extension of the decades-old movement promoting environmentally sensitive, sustainable, and socially conscious architecture—a movement made more urgent by climate change and explosive population growth.”
“Garden residences are a type of development that is low density in nature; however, their appeal is also the theme of many mid-rise and high-rise developments.”
He added, “Increasingly, architects and developers are embracing the benefits of using extensive vegetation on buildings, ranging from energy-saving thermal insulation and solar shading to mitigating air pollution, increasing urban biodiversity, and enhancing quality of life by bringing nature into places that are often proverbial concrete jungles.”
In garden residences, typically, lower floors are more prime due to their proximity to the garden amenities providing accessibility, and the top floors are also priced higher benefitting from individual elevated views. Yet, developments can offer sky gardens, where the concentration of its green features are located.
In a tropical country like the Philippines, garden residences are also famous on the beach and mountain top settings. As obviously land is expensive, construction for garden residences in highly urban areas is rare and, if it does, are considerably luxurious, offering such a unique lifestyle.
