Testing is a part of life! We have physical tests, driving tests, school is filled with tests, tests emotionally, aptitude tests, tests for certifications, and why would we not think that there will be spiritual tests?
We are not exempt from the tests of life as a follower of Jesus! We will battle our own flesh continually! We will fight the enemy of our souls! We will even battle with the culture! Following Jesus is going to test us!
In Mark 9: 49-50, we read these words from Jesus Himself: “For EVERYONE will be tested with fire. Salt is good for seasoning. But if it loses its flavor, how do you make it salty again? You may have the qualities of salt among yourselves and live in peace with each other.”
Jesus clearly tells us that each of us will be tested by fire. Fire will prove the quality of our spiritual lives. Can we really trust a person who has not been tested? Anyone can say the words, have a title, preach, teach, and look good in church. But what happens when fire comes to test us? Lord, help me to pass the tests that come my way.
Jesus then says that “Salt is good for seasoning.” But if it loses its flavor, how do you make it salty again?” As followers of Jesus, we are to be a seasoning to those whom God brings into our lives. Salt is to be shared. Jesus is to be shared! Salt is a spice – we are to be a spiritual spice in a world that is lifeless. We can only do this through the power of the Holy Spirit flowing in our lives!
Today, help me pass the tests of life and be the salt of Jesus in my life, so that people will see that Jesus is enough for us in this world and the world to come!
