In Matthew 22, a religious leader—an expert in the law—traps Jesus. He asks Jesus a question: “Teacher, which is the most important commandment in the Law of Moses?”
Jesus does not argue or debate with the religious ruler. But He answers: “You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and with all your mind.” It is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ The eerie law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.” Matthew 22 37-40
If you look at all 10 commandments that God gave to Moses, they can be summarized by – Loving God and Loving people! If you want to know where you are spiritually? Do you need to answer these two commands? Am I loving God and loving people?
* Loving God – if you ask most church people if they love God? How would the majority answer? Yes, of course I love God! But Jesus says that loving God means you are loving Him with ALL your heart, ALL your soul, and ALL your mind! Are we really ALL IN when it comes to loving God? Do we love Him above everything else? Do we love Him above everyone else? If we put anything ahead of Him, then we love that person, place, or thing more than we love Him? How are we doing with loving God?
* Loving people as we love ourselves? How many of us focus so much on loving ourselves that we have no desire to love anyone else? How are we doing when it comes to loving people? Do we love people that God has placed in our lives? Do we love people enough to minister to them? Do we love people who are lost without Jesus? Do we love ministering to people? Do we love Mission or Kingdom Builders because we love people? Do we look to serve people or to be served by people?
Today, help me to simplify my life and know that what God considers His priority in my life is – Loving God and Loving People!
