Today, Lord, give me a great desire and discipline to get into Your Word

The Word of God is the manual for being a follower of Jesus. Are we getting into the Word and allowing the Word to get in us?

How many of us get a new item, and a manual comes with it, but we do not read it? We think that we can put the item together without the manual. We think that we can use the new phone or computer and do not have to read the manual. Instead of reading the manual, we Google how to do it or call for someone to help us because we are lost.

This is the same way in our spiritual journey—God has provided a manual for His followers, but are we reading the manual?

Peter says in 1 Peter 2: 1-3; the importance of the manual (the Word of God), in our daily journey. “So get rid of all evil behavior. Be done with all deceit, hypocrisy, jealousy, and all unkind speech. Like newborn babies, you must crave pure spiritual mild so that you will grow into a full experience of salvation. Cry out for this nourishment, now that you have had a taste of the Lord’s kindness.”

How do we grow to be more like Jesus, by the Word of God? How many of us struggle with the spiritual discipline of staying in the Word?

• We must desire and crave the Word of God in our lives like a baby wanting milk—pure spiritual milk. We can read great Christian books, listen to podcasts, and listen to various pastors preach God’s Word, that is all well and good. But we need to desire the Word so that God can speak to us from the Word.
• We must desire to grow in our relationship with Jesus. How do we grow? By the Word of God. It will help us grow, experience all God has for us, and mature spiritually. If we really desire to grow spiritually, we must be in the Word of God.
• We must realize that the Word of God is our source of nourishment! Just like a baby needs nourishment to be strong, healthy, and growing, the follower of Jesus needs the nourishment that comes from the Word of God.

Today, Lord, give me a great desire and discipline to get into Your Word, allow Your Word to get into me, and give me the nourishment that I need today!
