How honest are we with ourselves? Are we discerning about our own spiritual condition? Do we think we are better than we really are spiritually?
Jeremiah 17:9-10 reads, “Our hearts are deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it? I the Lord search the heart and examine the mind, to reward each person according to their conduct, according to what their deeds deserve.”
Being a follower of Jesus requires that we get honest with ourselves and see our own spiritual condition. I am only hurting myself when I am not honest with myself!
Jeremiah tells us that our hearts are deceitful. We want to deny what is going on inside of us! We often make excuses for the way we live. We want to blame people, circumstances, and the church for the choices we make.
But the Lord is searching our hearts and examining our minds! One day, we will stand before the Lord and be judged on our true spiritual condition.
Today, Lord, help me to see and give me a new heart that will be real before You! “Create in me a clean heart and renew a right spirit within me.”
