Today, no matter where you are with the Lord, He is waiting for you to get up and come back to Him

Jesus continues to teach in Luke 15 about His concern for lost people and that His purpose is to reach as many people as possible. The last parable is about the Lost Son, but it is also about his two sons.

We read this parable in Luke 15:11-31; the younger son comes to his Father and asks him to give him his share of the estate now, before he dies. So the Father gives him his share of the estate, and in a few days, he leaves home to explore life beyond home.

We see that He moved far away from His Father. How many know that we can move away from the Lord in our own lives? He wanted to get away from his Father. It is a temptation for anyone who wants to get away from the Lord and live as the world does. We read that this son wasted all of his money on wild living. (v. 13) He spent his money on sinful living. He had all this money, and he wasted it. That is the same thing that sin does to each of us. Money is a temptation to waste it on wild, sinful living.

But even though we give up on God, God never gives up on us! In verse 14, we see that difficult times came to this younger son. He spent all of his money, and when you do not have money, all of a sudden, the reality of life hits you. No money, no dad, no support system, no friends, and no food. God has a way of getting our attention. Then a famine hits the land, and he is hungry and needy, and this wealthy boy is now a man without anything in life. So he goes and works to feed pigs. He has hit rock bottom.

But then he thought about his Father again. In verses 17-18, “When he finally came to his senses, he said to himself. “At home, even the hired servants have food enough to spare, and here I am dying of hunger! I WILL GO HOME TO MY FATHER, and say, “Father, I have sinned against both heaven and you, and I am no longer worthy of being called your son. Please take me on as a hired servant.”

Think about this today: How many people are staying in their problems, addictions, sin, instead of saying, “I can go home to the Father.” Today, no matter where you are with the Lord, He is waiting for you to get up and come back to Him.

Is the choice up to each of us? Where are we going to stay? Are we going to stay in our sin, or are we willing to get up and go back to our Heavenly Father?

The choice is up to us! Stay or Go back to the Father? What will you do?
