MANILA — The U.S. Embassy in the Philippines has announced the launch of its 2026 Graduate Studies Cohort Program, a joint initiative of EducationUSA Philippines and Fulbright Philippines aimed at identifying 15 emerging Filipino leaders for advanced studies in the United States. The Embassy confirmed that applications are now open and will be accepted until June 30, 2026, marking one of the most competitive and anticipated cycles of the program.
EducationUSA Philippines, the U.S. Department of State’s official advising network, said the initiative is part of its mission to expand access to U.S. graduate education. “EducationUSA provides free, comprehensive, and accurate information about studying in the United States,” the Embassy notes in its public advisory. Fulbright Philippines, administered by the Philippine-American Educational Foundation (PAEF), brings more than seven decades of experience in academic exchanges between the two countries.
The Embassy said the new cohort will receive intensive advising, application coaching, and preparation support designed to strengthen their competitiveness for U.S. graduate school admissions.
Program Goals and Priority Fields
According to the Embassy’s announcement, the 2026 cohort will focus on placing participants in key fields of study aligned with U.S.–Philippine development priorities. These include public policy, education, environmental science, public health, economics, international affairs, and STEM‑related disciplines. The Embassy emphasized that the program seeks applicants who demonstrate leadership potential and a commitment to contributing to Philippine society after their studies.
Fulbright Philippines highlighted the significance of the collaboration, noting that its long-standing exchange programs have supported nearly 3,000 Filipino scholars since 1948. “The Fulbright Program remains committed to strengthening mutual understanding between the Philippines and the United States,” the foundation states in its mission overview.
EducationUSA’s cohort model typically includes GRE/TOEFL preparation, essay and résumé workshops, financial aid guidance, and one‑on‑one advising. The Embassy said the 15 selected participants will undergo a structured preparation cycle beginning later this year.
Eligibility and Application Requirements
The Embassy outlined several eligibility criteria for interested applicants. Candidates must:
Be Filipino citizens residing in the Philippines
Hold a strong academic record from a recognized institution
Demonstrate leadership experience or community engagement
Show readiness for graduate-level study in the United States
Commit to completing all cohort activities and application milestones
While the program does not guarantee admission to U.S. universities, it is designed to significantly strengthen each participant’s competitiveness. Fulbright Philippines notes that its selection processes are “highly competitive and merit-based,” a standard expected to apply to this cohort.
Applicants must submit their materials by June 30, 2026, through the official application portal indicated by EducationUSA Philippines. Shortlisted candidates will be notified later in the year.
