NEW YORK — The USTA has reimagined the US Open Mixed Doubles Championship for 2025, giving it a prominent spotlight during the tournament’s Fan Week. The competition will now take place over two days, August 19-20, in Arthur Ashe Stadium and Louis Armstrong Stadium, with a $1 million prize for the winning team. This change aims to attract more top singles players to participate, as the matches will be played in a “Fast Four” format, with shorter sets and no-ad scoring.

In addition, the draw size has been reduced from 32 teams to 16 teams, with eight teams earning direct entry based on their combined singles ranking and eight wild-card entries.

High-profile players like Stefanos Tsitsipas and Paula Badosa have already confirmed their participation, hoping to replicate their success from the 2024 Mixed Madness exhibition. The revamped format and increased prize money are expected to draw significant interest from players and fans, making the mixed doubles event a major highlight of the 2025 US Open.

“One of the primary reasons the US Open is among the premier sports events in the world is because it features the best athletes, both male and female, competing on an equal stage,” said Lew Sherr, USTA Executive Director and CEO. “This is the official US Open Mixed Doubles Championship, and by giving the competition its own spotlight we’re elevating mixed doubles to put an even greater focus on the incredible talent we have across the sport.”

Sherr also said that top players are eager to be part of the historic change as the US Open is working closely with top players to be onboard.

The US Open said tennis is the only professional sport where women and men compete on the same court for equal prize money in a major championship. The 2025 US Open Mixed Doubles Championship, featuring top singles players, continues this tradition.

Top 8 seeded singles men and women

Several top singles players who participated in the 2024 Grand Slam tournaments also compete in the 2025 US Open. They are expected to put on an exciting show such as: Jannik Sinner: The 2024 Australian Open champion and US Open winner; Carlos Alcaraz: The 2024 French Open and Wimbledon champion; Iga Swiatek: The 2024 French Open champion; Aryna Sabalenka: The 2024 Australian Open and US Open champion, and Barbora Krejcikova: The 2024 Wimbledon champion.

The men’s top 8 seeded singles players for the 2025 US Open include Jannik Sinner (Italy), Novak Djokovic (Serbia), Carlos Alcaraz (Spain), Alexander Zverev (Germany), Daniil Medvedev (Russia), Andrey Rublev (Russia), Hubert Hurkacz (Poland), and Casper Ruud (Norway).

The women’s top 8 seeded singles players are: Iga Swiatek (Poland), Aryna Sabalenka (Belarus), Coco Gauff (United States), Elena Rybakina (Kazakhstan), Jasmine Paolini (Italy), Jessica Pegula (United States), Qinwen Zheng (China), and Barbora Krejcikova (Czech Republic).

Prominent players representing the US

Several prominent US players, such as Taylor Fritz, Frances Tiafoe, Coco Gauff, Jessica Pegula, and Madison Keys, are expected to participate in the 2025 US Open. These players and others will represent the United States and aim for success.

Fritz has been performing well on the AATP Tour and is expected to be a strong contender. Tiafoe, known for his energetic playing styles and impressive performances, is another key player to watch. Gauff, a rising star in women’s tennis who has already significantly impacted the WTC Tour, is expected to continue her success. Pegula, one of the top-ranked American women, has consistently performed well, along with Keys, who is always a formidable opponent in any tournament.

Eala, Osaka to represent the Philippines and Japan

Alex Eala, the Philippines’ pride, also participates. She has been making waves in tennis and is looking to build on her impressive performances. She is known for her strong game determination and is a player to watch in this year’s tournament. Alexandro “Sandro” Viaene, also from the Rafa Nadal Academy where she previously trained, is her new coach. They have been working together to ensure she is physically prepared for the demands of the season. Viaene succeeds Daniel Gomez, Eala’s coach for several years.

Naomi Osaka is another well-known name expected to participate in this year’s US Open. After taking some time off for motherhood and personal growth, she has made a strong comeback, actively competing in various tournaments and expressing her goals of winning more Grand Slams, including Wimbledon and the French Open. She is scheduled to participate in the BNP Paribas at Indian Wells in March 2025. Given her active participation in the tennis circuit and her ambitions, it is likely that she will compete in this year’s US Open, but there is no official announcement yet.

Pegula enjoys competing in doubles and is excited to play the 2025 US Open Mixed Doubles Championship during the first week. “I appreciate the importance of innovation and exploring new ways to engage more fans and grow our sport,” she said.

Fritz finds mixed doubles always a great challenge, having had terrific experiences over the years. “From the Olympics to the United Cup and even the USO Mixed Madness last year, I’m definitely looking forward to the chance to compete for a Grand Slam title in the future,” he said.
