Vice President Sara Duterte resigns as DepEd secretary

MANILA, Philippines — Vice President Sara Duterte resigned as Member of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s Cabinet, Secretary of Education, and Vice Chairperson of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC), effective July 19, 2024.

According to the Presidential Communications Office (PCO), Duterte went to the Malacanang to tender her resignation at 2:21 p.m. on June 19, 2024. “She declined to give a reason for her resignation,” added PCO. However, she will continue to serve as Vice President.

The president accepted her decision to resign.

In a statement, Senator Bong Go, who also hails from Davao, said, “Mula noon, hanggang ngayon, at hanggang sa mga darating pang mga pagsubok, kaisa ako ni Vice President Inday Sara Duterte lalo na sa hangaring ihatid ang aniya’y “tunay na malasakit para sa ating mga guro at kabataang Pilipino.” (Ever since, until now, and in the days to come with trials, I am one with Vice President Inday Sara Duterte. More so, in her concern to our teachers and Filipino youth.)

Go said he knew her since she started her public service as she continues to show her skills, stability, dedication and principled service to our country. “Kilala ko siya noon pang nagsimula siya sa serbisyo publiko at hanggang ngayon ay ipinapamalas niya ang kanyang husay, katatagan, dedikasyon at maprinsipyong pagsisilbi sa bayan.

He thanked her for her service, adding, “there is always a time for everything.“Ito ang panahon para mas lalong unahin ang kapakanan ng ating mga kababayan.” (This is the time to continue the work for the welfare of our people.)
