What is overlooked as we read Acts 16, and the miracle in the prison? Paul and Silas are praying and praising the Lord, and the Spirit sends an earthquake, and the chains fall off the prisoners. Is that God loved one prison guard and his family?

The guard was getting ready to kill himself, because if the prisoners escaped, then he would be killed. Paul shouts out to him in Acts 16:29, “Stop! Don’t kill yourself! We are all here.” The jailer called for lights and ran to the dungeon and fell down trembling before Paul and Silas. “Then he brought them out and asked, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” This man saw the power of God and knew that He needed to be saved. We need the power of the Holy Spirit in our lives to get saved!

In Acts 18:31, Paul told them about Jesus’ plan as Savior. “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, along with everyone in your household.”

The jailer and his family accept Christ into their lives. What do they do, they begin to minister to Paul and Silas and cared for the same prisoners that they were in jail, but now they are caring and washing the wounds on their bodies. Then they were immediately baptized, which meant telling everyone that they were now followers of Jesus. They brought Paul and Silas into their home and fed them, and there was rejoicing because they were now followers of Jesus!

We need to tell people what they must do to be saved. “Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved.”

We need to be aware of those who need Jesus, be sensitive to minister to them, and allow the Lord to open doors so we can share Jesus today!

We serve an amazing God who wants us to be His amazing people!
