“What we confess God will cover over, but what we cover over, God will uncover”

In 2 Samuel 11, we see that even Godly people can make bad choices. When we make bad choices, there will be consequences. David shows us this when he sinned with Bathsheba. She is now pregnant! His sin is going to be found out!

What does David do? He tries to cover his sin so that he can get away with it in the eyes of men. We may cover our sins from our mates, children, and parents for a while, but God knows about our sins.

2 Samuel 11: 6-9 shows David’s plan to cover up his sin. “Then David sent word to Joab: “Send me Uriah (Bathsheba’s husband). When Uriah arrived, David asked him how Joab and the army were getting along and how the war was progressing. Then he told Uriah. “Go on home and relax.” David even sent a gift to Uriah after he left the palace. But Uriah did not go home. He slept that night at the palace entrance with the king’s palace guard.”

David made his plan and thought that he would cover up his sin. He wanted Uriah to go home and sleep with his wife. Then, when it was known that Bathsheba was pregnant, they could say that it was Uriah’s child. However, Uriah did not go home that night, and now David has to scheme and think of something else.

The principle is simply this: “What we confess God will cover over, but what we cover over, God will uncover.”

Today, when we sin, we need to confess our sins to the Lord and ask for His mercy and forgiveness in our lives. 1 John 1:9 – “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all
unrighteousness.”
