Part XLIII of the “United States 2024 Elections” Series

This columnist has written several articles on the need for politicians to sign “Covenants” with the people (read, voters). For instance, on September 24, 2023, he wrote: Candidates can sign “Covenants” to do the ABBA proposals.

This writer discussed more details about the proposed “Covenants with Voters (and People)” that voters can demand from candidates. Yes, as part of a suggested “American Back-to-Basics Agenda” (ABBA).

A new president may draft and sign individual Covenants during the 2024 campaign period. Respectfully, it is suggested that it may start with a concrete plan to turn “labor unions” into “labor cooperatives ” and end “crony capitalism” and replace it with the principles of “cooperative economics.”

Sen. Raphael Warnock (D, Georgia) used the term “American Covenant” three times in his speech at the recent Democrat National Convention in the City of Chicago (Illinois).

The first was when Senator Warnock, who is also a pastor, asked the audience: “Are you ready to stand up in this moral moment? Stand up for the best in the American Covenant? Elections are about the character of a country and we must decide, again, we are the latest generation of Americans who get to decide what kind of country we want to be.”

Perhaps Senator Warnock can initiate an “American Covenant” for his constituents in Georgia to initiate a national consortium to help build the proposed 3 million new homes. Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic Party nominee for president in this year’s election, adopted the ambitious national housing plan as part of her socioeconomic platform. She vowed to address the homeless crisis, beginning with military veterans and poor families that are forced to live in tents on streets or under bridges in many American cities and towns — after she wins the presidential election.

Georgia may be the perfect site to sign an “American Covenant on New Housing” starting in January 2025 as a priority project of the Kamala Harris Administration. Why? Former President Jimmy Carter started Habitat for Humanity in Georgia, which was geared to address the perennial problem of homelessness.

And what better time to do it than on October 1, 2024, which happens to be the 100th birthday of former President Carter? The former POTUS is now in a hospice center, but he certainly will appreciate the gesture. He must also commit all possible help that he and his people at the “Habitat for Humanity” can muster and contribute. This columnist is sure that young and experienced Georgian professionals — from architects to engineers, builders, developers, and blue-collar workers (from carpenters to masons and other experts) of all ages — will answer the call to lead in eliminating or even drastically mitigating homelessness not only in the United States but also in other countries as well. Homelessness is now a universal problem.

What say you, Vice President Kamala Harris and Senator Warnock?
