Lord, help me to remember that “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”

In Revelation 2: 8-11, we read John’s letter to the Church in Smyrna. It was a suffering church. Around the world, there are followers of Jesus who suffer because they are followers of Jesus.

In verse 9, “I (Jesus) know about your suffering and poverty—but you are rich.” This verse goes against our view that we are only blessed when we have possessions in life. When we are suffering and in great need, we need the Presence, Power, and Provision that only the Lord can give to each of us.

In verse 10, “Don’t be afraid of what you are about to suffer. The devil will throw some of you in prison to TEST you. But if you remain FAITHFUL even when facing death, I will give you the crown of life.”

How can we face suffering and sorrow in this life? By remaining faithful to the Lord and being filled with His Spirit.

Lord, help me to remember that “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
